A fraud reviewer

I'm a shallow consumer.

I rarely have deep thoughts about the things I consume and despite having written "reviews" about stuff on my blog, those are rarely takes of substance.

I never dive deep and whenever I think about something that could potentially be a call for depth, I don't pursue that lead and think further.

I've been reading great reviews for a while and though I wish to write like them, I never took the time to see what made them stand out. I wish to be where they are but I am not humble enough to find their earliest footsteps.

It doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the things I consume, I do. I am easy to please, but I find it easier to write about the flaws of something than to find praise aside from "it's cool/amazing!"

I guess I need to go back to basics with my adjectives.

As of this writing, I'm enjoying my time with Metaphor ReFantazio, but I could never write an amazing take like this about it, despite agreeing on most points and feeling the same as I play through the game.

Persona 4 Golden is one of my favorites of the series, but I never even realized the hullaballoo over Kanji's and Naoto's portrayals until I was made aware of it via online articles. I didn't even know the discussion went that deep. I totally missed another layer of the cake despite enjoying eating it so much.

I guess I need to refine my palate. I was just enjoying and having fun, but there are so many more ways to look at the things I'm consuming.

This goes for more than just video games, I've "reviewed" books, food, shoes, mountains, places, and more.

But now I'm wondering if trying to see everything from a critic's perspective is a good thing.

Why can't I just like the cake for what it is, without having the need to say more than "it's delicious!".

Why do I even need to be a reviewer.

I can just be a commenter. I can just be a yapper.

But I still want to improve my yapping.

I'll try to dive deeper in the future. Let's see if I sink or swim.
