Busy

Today I realized I haven't browsed reddit in a while. So I logged in and browsed it for a while and then another realization hit me.

I'm bored of this.

And not the good kind of bored, it's the bored where scrolling doesn't give me the dopamine hit that it used to.

So what changed?

Well, in short, I've been quite busy, these days.

Work has been busy in a bad way. Lots of resignations in our department have swamped me with more work for no pay. That's all I'm gonna say about that, but it's kept me on my toes for the most part.

Outside of work, I've been busy with my new hobby of creating a video game using RPG Maker MV. Most of my extra time has been poured into this project.

I've had multiple attempts at creating a game (hello Godot and Blender) and this is the farthest I've gone. I'm determined to make this stick and it's been lots of fun (and frustration).

Creating custom assets has been my favorite part, but trying to understand javascript and the deeper mechanics have been a worthwhile challenge. It's cool how many ways I can try to implement something in the vanilla system before resorting to plugins.

I've also been busy physically with trying to be consistent in the gym and returning to running. I have a big physical task coming up so I'm making sure that I'm well-prepared. This has also taken up a big chunk of my time.

E-books are still a good way to spend my offline time, aside from plain pondering. Keigo Higashino is definitely my author of the year because I'm captivated by everything I've read from him.

All these combined just pushed reddit (and to some extent, YouTube) out of my mind. It's reached a point that I'm no longer craving for it.

I guess the key is really simple. Just replace the habit with another one.

I'm sure I'll return to scrolling on reddit some day. But for now, it won't be missed.
