I won't let you use my stickers! But Viber is on your side.
Here's something new I learned today: Your DIY Viber Stickers are permanent.
Some background information: Viber is a messaging platform that is popular in my country and is mostly used for work (and scamming) purposes. In addition to buying sticker packs, you are free to create your own. You can keep these packs for yourself, or share them to people.
Recently, my current archnemesis pissed me off to the point that I want to revoke their access to a sticker pack I made before. This person happens to love this sticker pack and I hoped that by taking away this privilege would make them treat me nicer.
Imagine my surprise after deleting the said sticker pack, they still were able to use those stickers on Viber.
I was dumbfounded and I immediately searched the web for an explanation.
I don't read the fine print, especially for something that sounds absolutely harmless like stickers on a messaging app. But according to Viber's sticker terms, anyone who has downloaded the sticker pack gets to keep it until they wipe their viber files, either by changing devices or manually cleaning their storage.
Oops. My petty revenge scheme didn't work.
I'm not that mad, but it's funny with how easy it is to make custom stickers on Viber that people forget how it stays on other people's phones for a long, long time.
I've made some stickers before as one-off jokes and memes. Thankfully, I didn't open them for public sharing. But imagine if I did. I would forever live in fear of being cancelled for a joke I made via a Viber sticker years ago.
Anyway, now that Viber is off the table, I'm thinking of other, more creative ways to ruin my archnemesis' day. But I might as well just let karma do its thing.
