The Weekly Report 002

Oops. Posted this on a Monday but in my defense, today's a holiday so I thought it was still the weekend. Anyway, here are the past week's interesting things I saw on the web.

I love reading about people's experiences in Japan. Matthew writes about his trip and at the end enumerates some observations he had. Despite big differences in our itineraries (I don't have as much budget as he has, nor have I stayed as long in Tokyo), we came to a lot of similar conclusions.

It was refreshing to be in a place where society puts the needs of others first instead of the general "gotta get mine!" attitude everywhere you look in the US.

Overall, it was eye-opening to see what happens when people try to create a more just society and it really does feel different (and much better).

While Matthew comes from America, I'm in the Philippines, which does look up to America like an older brother, so a lot of systems in place are the same. I think we both found in Japan what our homes are lacking at, and were mesmerized by them.

In a not-surprising turn of events, reddit has officially announced its plans to shift to a log-in only website. No account, no access.

I've been banned for a while now, so my access is limited to just browsing, no more commenting. When this change does happen in my area, then I guess I'll have to finally say goodbye to Reddit.

Reddit has been taking up a lot of my screen time when I'm at the office so this might be a course-correction by the universe. I guess it's time to fully depend on the indie web for my desire to hear some drama.

The CEO says it's making the website private so that AI Scrapers won't be able to train themselves on the site, which undoubtedly has a lot of info on human civilization. But based on their past actions, it's not to stop AI Scrapers, but to allow only the AI Scrapers who PAY Reddit have access to the information inside.

Just another step towards the total enshittification of the internet. Thank goodness I still have Bear's discover feed and Bubbles.

Line of Action is a site for figure drawing lessons. I want to be a better artist so I've been binge-watching art tutorials on YouTube lately. Now it's time to actually put the knowledge to practice.

Another site I plan to use for drawing practice is Pose Maniacs. Their feature to freely rotate the poses in any angle will come in handy when it's time to practice those dynamic poses.

Installed, fiddled with, and bought the premium version of Niagara Launcher because the minimalist app display resonated with me. It also made my current home screen much cuter because of the way the apps are displayed.

The app was recommended by the Slower Living Club from last week's report. The end goal is to minimize the use of my phone and it is still an ongoing battle.

I used the Pokecard Generator to make my own custom pokemon card. It's fully packed with everything needed to make your own and I'm talking to a friend who can print it out. I don't even play the TCG, but I've been a fan of those cards with eye-catching art.

That's it for now. See ya next time!
